Established by Amit Khanna in 2004, the studio's philosophy is to make regional specificity and sustainability intrinsic to the design process and the final product.
Every object we produce, be it a 60,000 sq. ft. office building or a 0.5 sq. ft. light fixture, undergoes the same scrutiny of process & exactitude, which is founded in suitable materiality and innovation, irrespective of appearance.

Founder & Design Principal, AKDA
Managing Partner, Build Design Workshop
Amit Khanna is an architect, urbanist and educator. He is the founder and design principal at AKDA, a globally recognised multidisciplinary architecture & design firm based in New Delhi, India. His studio integrates architecture, construction, and sustainability, producing award-winning buildings. He was recently honoured by the Minister of Industries for his excellence in using indigenous stone and featured in Forbes India’s The Bold Club: Design Next Gen Top 30 Under 45 (2023).
Amit regularly speaks at industry events, including Fensterbau Frontale, Acetech, Design Mission India, Smart Cities India, FOAID, India Design ID & Greha, with his firm’s work featured regularly in national and international media.
Alongside his practice, Amit teaches at his alma mater. He has also advised the Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage on restoration, consulted UNHABITAT on Tier-2 city planning, and contributed to NCCF’s plywood assessment standards.

AKDA integrates the disciplines of architecture, interior design, sustainability, furniture, lighting and product design under a singular ethos.
Central to our design ethos is the need to build buildings that outperform the industry average and raise the bar for ethical construction standards. These buildings have a smaller carbon footprint during construction and use local materials and manpower.
Using passive and active strategies to reduce energy consumption, they are also more cost-effective to operate and maintain in the long term.
Our unique approach is to take full responsibility for the delivery of our projects till the client moves into the building. Linking costs to design early in the process lets the client drive the outcome within planned budgets.

We do not fear the abundance of information available to clients. Rather than fight for control of the process, we embrace our clients’ awareness and allow them to participate in the design's evolution.
Sustainability is defined as our ability to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

We are deeply sensitive to the local urban environment that we inhabit. As our projects increase in scale & scope, their impact on the micro-context encourages us to consider community issues alongside our clients’ interests. Through recent projects, we have improved urban edges and the comfort of non-paying users on the street.
